mentorship
Supportive mentorship & orientation programs
-
Each intern is paired with a faculty advisor/mentor and meets at least twice per year for residency development and guidance.

Interns are also paired with PGY2s for a smoother transition into intern year.
-
Our 2-week orientation prepares our new interns for their first year including resident and faculty mentorship and training for our family medicine clinic, fetal heart monitoring course, OB simulation lab course, and thorough review and tour of our intern inpatient rotations. This lessens first rotation anxiety!

A one-week intensive Spanish or Creole course is offered through our GME office as part of orientation.
ACADEMICS
Strong Academic Program

100% American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) pass rate due to our solid curriculum and resident experiences at our world-leading medical center.

Strong focus on academic and board preparation including weekly Wednesday morning academic day conferences with prominent speakers featured throughout the year.

Respected family medicine in-patient service taught by our own family medicine faculty who are also program alum.

Our residents graduate proficient in a full range of office procedures, office counseling, urgent and emergency care, common inpatient and outpatient medical problems, and women’s health.

Jackson Memorial Hospital has several fellowships opportunities for our residents:

Sports Medicine Fellowship based on our University of Miami Coral Gables campus

Both our Geriatrics and Hospice fellowships are based at the Miami Veteran Affairs (VAMC) on our medical campus with rotations also at Jackson and the University of Miami.
